I will 03:32
I will strive to be all that you would hope for And I will sometimes be all that and more And I will often fall in the deep end And I will sometimes wake up on the floor I will, be inspired, I think, by new friends I will, still take a drink with my old friends And I will, sometimes go search out for more When I do, I'll always end up at our door For you, you dear, mean everything oh you, you do mean everything Oooh la la la In a book that sits beside of our bed, There's a line that I can't seem to clear out of my head Telling stories of old, that bend and unfold throughout the night Tell me things that I do, things that I say, are alright... With you, who means everything For you, you do mean everything Ooooh la la la For you, you do mean everything and you, you should be everything
2.
Time is a treasure that you won't track down Not a place to run to It's a touch or a smile that lasts just a while, not a place to run to It's where I fall, with you There's a stranger in the way; A ghost for a day That hides a bit of you It's an untrodden trail that leads its way to you It's where I fall down, I fall down with you Where I fall down, fall down with you There's a word on a page that is written in a way That leads its way through To an actor on a stage, it's yet another play That ends a bit too soon Stay another day Play a little while Hide yourself Take a little time It's a breath, not a light, that guides my way to you It's how I fall down, I fall down with you It's where I fall down with you Time is a pleasure that we won't have long Not a game to rush through So break another smile, stay a little while Hide yourself, take a little time, Let the river inside rush for a while in you And let me fall down with you

Hours Made 05:18
Caught up in the landslide Caught up in your rain I thought that when I found you I'd be dancing once again The hours spent to love you the hours spent to try truth is now I found you, I'll go hiding for a while All the notes I wrote you I'd write them once again Written for a stranger, who soon became a friend Tell it to me all night Tell me once again Tell me I'll be alright Just Tell me anything All the complications All the lines were said All the iterations of better plan ahead I was made to love you I always meant to try Tied a thread around you, let's go running for a while Try to find your way home tonight It's been a long day And both of us know it It doesn't matter at all, she said, It's been a long day You're starting to show it You can't make sense of it all It doesn't matter at all You can't make sense of it all… Find yourself in another place All of the time you're just running away Find yourself in another phase It's always, it's always, the same... It doesn't matter at all Try to paint yourself another face Before all colors are fading away Always temper what you ought to say It's always the same It doesn't matter at all

Put your eyes to the mirror Now, who could that be? Who's torn out the pages From the books that you read? You took all you wanted. Did you take what you need? Did you leave some for others? Because there's others in need There are prophets among us That we don't need to see And though they stand among us, They come, they come, With no guarantees So, you line up your profits And plant your little seed And you claim it's an honest Living you need You line up before us Do we look good on our knees? As you're making a promise, It's certainly not, nor never guaranteed Eye for an eye was all that I could see I was advised that all advice was free Never guaranteed Put your eyes to the mirror Now who could that be? Making claims like a prophet For all the troubles we breed Put a light on the pages For they're getting hard to read When the words blow away They come, they come with no guarantees Eye for an eye was all that I could see I was advised that all advice was free, but never guaranteed

Storyteller 05:18
So glad to be here, outside your door So many came here, and many more, just run away Nurses, doctors, and lawyers too Storytellers, they all run to you And run away Oooh, but I have something to say We're not worth it, in any way I heard rustling along the line Broken whispers, forgotten lies - they tell to you Out of sadness, out of the fields Out of their minds, in so many ways They come to you Ooh, but I have something to say Feel like something is on the way Your house of worship has locked the doors Though many came here, there's many more were turned away Oooh, but I had something to say Oooh, we're not worth it in any way Storyteller, on the fence Won't you tell us How it ends Storyteller, on the fence Won't you tell us How it ends Won't you tell us How it ends Won't you tell us How it ends

A serpent slips into the river Lifts his head as if to smile The mustached man cast a line as he falls It seems to happen all the time Up above floats in the water Some teenage boys who dance and whine The awkward one, he gets made fun of which seems to happens all the time Did you think of this all By yourself? Did you think of this all By yourself? You had it all worked out We talk of plans and our direction Silly songs, we tell dirty jokes We have to choose from the selection Whomever's lies we like the most Did you think of this all By yourself? Did you think of this all Just by yourself? Did you think of this all? You had it all worked out The police they came again this morning Another man had jumped our fence They brought a dog. They tried to catch him. And Roger's talking to himself again Did you think of this all By yourself? Did you think of this all Just by yourself? Did you think of this all? Because it's all worked out

She put on A worried face that I should have known And there was I Kept thinking I should be ready to go I took a drive From Minnesota to the beautiful coast The winds were high There was a man by the side of the road With a cane by the side of the road He had no eye But had a lie like I should have known He asked if I Could take him him down to the rodeo To see his sister at the rodeo This is no time to reflect, you better turn around and take him This is no time to regret, what it is that you did This is not time to reflect, you better turn around and just take him Because in the morning you'll get what it is that you did It was a lie There was no sister at the rodeo And there was I Thinking I should be ready to go Just thinking I should be ready to go

about

The first recording by The Color Forty Nine.

Stories are everywhere, if you look for them

The Color Forty Nine hail from San Diego, California, where pretty much everything is nice. The weather and languid pace can easily lull you into a blissful complacency...or implore you to seek for more. For their first recording, the band has mined a collection of seven musical stories from their surroundings, daily life, countries traveled, and the fortunate proximity of the neighboring town of Tijuana, Mexico, a whole different place altogether.

Describing it as ‘the best feature of living in San Diego, and one tragically avoided by all too many’, Tijuana is the inspiration and occasional setting for many of the lyrics for vocalist, Phil Beaumont. Stealing from autobiographical moments, and semi-fictional tales of characters encountered, and imagined, from both sides of the border and beyond, Beaumont’s lyrics explore the notion that we all seek refuge, in places, moments and people with whom, or from whom, we sometimes want to escape.

The lead track, ‘I will’, speaks to the idea of finding anonymity in a crowd and allowing ourselves to let in to the foibles of being human. Quasi-confessional, where none is necessary, it leans on the common desire to diverge from the path without losing the way. Beaumont is a director of a public elementary school, and finds refuge in music, other communities and places that provide breathing room in times of need. Working with kindred musicians allows for a less censored vulnerability in songsmithing.

Collectively, the members of the band have played throughout the world with previous and current projects such as little white teeth (Phil Beaumont), the Black Heart Procession (Matt Resovich & Jason Hooper), the Album Leaf (Matt Resovich), maquiladora (Phil Beaumont), System’s Officer (Jason Hooper) and the John Meeks Band (John Meeks, Matt Resovich). The band members have also sat in with the likes of Eric Bachmann and Pinback as touring members.

As multi-instrumentalists, each member gets to stray from their previous roles to find new musical connections to song writing. As a bass player for most of his life, Beaumont picked up, by happenstance, a baritone ukulele to travel with more easily, and thus was the genesis of the songs on this, the band’s first outing. Matt Resovich plays violin and Casiotone through the many effects pedals he builds himself. Jason Hooper, a highly sought-after drummer, picks up the bass for the Color Forty Nine, and John Meeks, typically the front man to his own band, falls back on his drum-core days to fill out the rhythm section. Their musical home is the attic of a 1910 home in Sherman Heights, where each rehearsal begins with a family style meal of good food and better wine.

This first, self-titled ep is a collection of songs recorded over the past 9 months; a reflection on San Diego’s slow pace perhaps. The band has collaborated extensively with film-maker Grant Reinero on a variety of videos to accompany the songs. Shooting in locations such as Tijuana and in collaboration with installation artists. Collaboration is a strong suit for The Color Forty Nine whose members have worked on a variety of soundtracks for film, theater and documentaries. Already working on songs for a follow up record, they recently went to TIjuana’s mariachi plaza to collaborate on a song reflecting the absurdity of the current push for a wall between the two countries.
